Privacy & trust
Clever Acorns is built for young children, so we take data seriously. This page is the plain-English version - what gets stored, what doesn't, and which third parties ever see any of it.
The smallest amount we can and still run an account. On our servers:
Your email address - so you can log in and recover your account.
A salted, hashed password (scrypt). We never store the password itself, and a database leak wouldn't reveal it.
Your tier and usage counts - which plan you're on, and how many words have been spelled today and in total. Counts, not content.
If you applied for special access - the name, email, child's age, and the short paragraph you wrote on the application form. Deleted on request.
Family voice recordings (only if you opt in) - if a parent records a family member's voice in the optional Family voices feature, we store that recording and the audio clips generated from it, and we send the recording to ElevenLabs to create a private voice. We ask you to confirm you have that person's permission first. You can delete a family voice at any time from your account, which removes the recording, the generated clips, and the voice from ElevenLabs.
There are whole categories of data other kid-apps collect that we simply never write to disk:
Transcripts of what your child says or types. Spoken words go through the browser's speech recognition and are sent to our AI provider to produce a reply - we don't log or keep them on our end.
Echo audio. The Hear Your Voice (Echo) tool runs entirely in your browser. That mic feed never leaves the device. (The opt-in Family voices feature is the one exception where audio is stored - see "What we store" above.)
Child names, ages, photos, or locations. The app never asks. A parent creates an account; the child just taps.
Third-party ad or analytics trackers. No Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no behavioural ads. Ever.
Clever Acorns uses two external providers to do things we couldn't do ourselves. We list them openly because you deserve to know whose servers your words pass through.
Anthropic - the large language model (currently Claude Haiku) that turns "how do I spell dragon" into a friendly reply. When a paid feature uses the AI, the text that was said or typed is sent to Anthropic. No account identifiers are attached.
Anthropic privacy policy ยท Their commercial terms commit to not training on our API traffic.
ElevenLabs - the text-to-speech engine that reads words and sentences aloud in a natural voice. We send the short text to be spoken; ElevenLabs sends back audio. No identifiers are attached. If you use the optional Family voices feature, the recording you make is also sent to ElevenLabs to create a private cloned voice for your account; deleting the voice removes it from ElevenLabs too.
We may swap or add providers later (for example, a different LLM or TTS vendor). If we do, we'll update this page before changing the code in production.
Clever Acorns is designed so that the account belongs to a parent or guardian, not a child. The app never asks a child for personal information, and the only grown-up controls sit behind a parent gate (a parent-set PIN) so that billing, settings, and data requests can't be triggered by a curious tap.
If you believe a child has signed up directly, or you'd like any data tied to your account deleted, email us at privacy@cleveracorns.com and we'll remove it within 7 days.
Email privacy@cleveracorns.com. A human replies - usually within a day.
